The fun continues...

I then attended Miss Michigan Day at the Capital. I met with Representative Forlini and we got into a great discussion about K2 and the possible legalization of medical marijuana, which directly relates to my platform...Above the Influence: Keeping Kids Drug Free. I am so glad to have taken part in this day, it was extremely educational.

On Saturday 5/20 I attended the SCS Baseball Opener! I even threw out the first pitch and made it onto the cover of the SCS Connection newspaper. Anyone who knows me, knows I'm not a softball expert, but with a few lessons from my sporty cousins I threw out a strike!

Then it was Memorial Day Weekend, parades galore! I met many local dignitaries and visited with ones I already knew. Very fun event with my SCS family!

It's always fun to chat with the Brownies about self-esteem, even if only for a short few minutes :D PS Where's my Samoas?! JK

In the middle of all this we had dress alterations, costume appointments, mock interviews and talent rehearsals. What a busy and exciting month!

Late April & May Updates from Ang!

What a busy year it has been! Let me update you on some of my April and May events as Miss St. Clair Shores:

I attended the Optimist Champion Dinner at Blossom Heath Inn in SCS, and was just floored by the caliber of students who received scholarship awards. I was brought to tears by several of the stories. What an uplifting night,and I felt lucky to be invited as a special guest.

I took part in Miss Michigan Night at the Tiger's Game! This was 2 days after I was involved in a scary auto accident which I was lucky enough to walk away from with minor injuries. I surely believe in guardian angels now, and please everyone wear a seatbelt at all times. My seatbelt and airbags absolutely saved my life.

Speaking about why my platform is relevant today

The first weekend in May, I was asked to model in a fashion for for our sponsor Fashion Couture with Heidi Scheer at the Women's Expo in Novi. What a great time we had modeling the gowns and short dresses! It was so much fun!

I attended a seminar held at  Utica High School in Shelby Twp, my hometown, about the dangers of K2 and marijuana for teens. I heard uplifting speakers and even spoke to some parents about resources they can use to help get their child on the right road (for those who expressed that their child had experimented or was having issues with various drugs.)

That same day I attended a mother/daughter breakfast in St. Clair Shores. I even got to appear as a real princess, signing autographs and chatting with the girls and their moms. I met so many kids that day, it was a lot of fun.

The following weekend I attended a life changing seminar. This is separate from pageant world, but has impacted me greatly...it was called the Landmark Forum. Here's a web site to check out for more information: www.landmarkeducation.com

Violet Fundraiser

I attended a fundraiser for Violet Elementary School along with my very own Little Miss & Outstanding Teen. The fundraiser was organized by our Teen's mom, Karla! She did such a great job, as it was quite the undertaking.

Karla's idea was to have the queens run the hockey net area. I imagine it was quite humorous for the parents to watch as I gave their children 'hockey tips.' We had so much fun with the kids that day!

THEN I was part of a live auction. Lunch with Miss SCS (me!) was auctioned off as I stood before hundreds of people in an elementary school gym. To my delight, someone bid on me for $50 (haha!)

From the fundraiser I ran to the dance studio to meet with Julie, a former Miss SCS who flew here from NYC just to choreograph my talent! I had never met her before, and was so excited to get to work on my dance. I absolutely love the dance and had a great time with Julie, too.

Kick Butts Day! An event to end smoking deaths

I participated in the T3 (Teens Talking Truth) flashmob held at Macomb Community College South Campus. Along with a group of teens and younger kids, we did a short dance then all dropped to the ground holding signs that said 1200 (the number of tobacco related deaths every day in the US.) Then one member read statistics through a megaphone and concluded the presentation with, "Don't be a statistic!"

I was so thrilled to be a part of this event. As a teen I was involved in T3 and I've been able to stay involved through my platform. It's a great organization for some really great kids.

There were a few reporters from local papers at the event and I even got to do an interview with Shelby TV :) All in all, a great day.

March is Reading Month!

My teen Vanessa and I were asked to be celebrity readers at Greenwood Elementary in SCS last week. Among the other celebrities was a police officer and Justin Beiber! JK

We read to about 5 classes and were asked after each reading to explain our platform and what the Miss America Organization is all about. After explaining that a platform is community service that each person chooses to focus on and that mine is Keeping Kids Drug-Free, a young girl asked me why I chose it.




I quickly scanned my brain...how to answer in an age appropriate way to this child? I told her that I had some friends who went down the wrong path and turned to drugs and alcohol, and I decided to talk to kids about it so they can live healthy and drug-free lives.

It was a really great day. We had lots of fun!!

Also I got to see my Little & Teen compete at Jump dance competition. SCS <3!!

Orientation & Passing on my crown

The first weekend in March is notoriously the Miss Michigan orientation weekend. Also held that weekend is the Miss Lighthouse Coast pageant, where it was time for me to pass on my crown.



Sometimes I can't believe I even won Miss Lighthouse Coast. Maybe I was lucky, or in the right place at the right time...but either way, I won the final sweeps pageant that sends one last girl on to state. This year I passed the title on to Tiffany Rogers, and we are all very excited for her. It was sad for me to say goodbye to my ED Shelby, but we remain friends and still talk quite a bit.



Now I'm all Miss SCS as my director Liz would say! At orientation I chose my contestant number- 15, the final contestant of the Alpha group. I was also assigned my roommate...drumroll please...none other than my pageant friend Morgan Lind! We are going to have so much fun and hopefully not get into so much trouble along the way.



I am really looking forward to the state pageant this June. Self-improvement is a lot of hard work, but ultimately very, very worthwhile.

Project Alert, Teen Intervene & IHOP Pancake Day!

Woooohooooooooo it's pageant season!


On the 22nd of February I visited with 3 middle school classrooms at Clintondale Middle School as part of the Project Alert campaign through CARE. It was a segment for middle school students about ATOD (alcohol, tobacco and other drugs.) I helped give a 'drug quiz' to find out about what the students knew about drugs...and found that numerous students believed some pretty common myths. I got to help debunk those myths. We also discussed goals: why it's important to have goals, how to achieve them and when to begin working to achieve them. The time to begin is always- NOW!




I then spent my Saturday volunteering with Teen Intervene. This is a program for high school kids who have experimented with drugs/alcohol, have run into problems because of it and a family member has signed them up for this all-day seminar. The parents have their own meeting for most of the day, and the students have a separate meeting. We discussed various things like how to avoid a full-fledged addiction: stopping NOW while they are still in the experimentation or misuse stage. We did the 'slippery slope' activity, one of my favorites, and I found that every student really bought into this activity. We also did some interactive coordination experiments involving "drunk goggles."






On 2/28 (National Pancake Day!) I visited two IHOP locations to help raise funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Miss America's National Platform, of course! I met some fun friends along the way and had just a great time. I really enjoyed being a part of Pancake Day!

Chili Cook Off, Miss LTU & Oh so much more

This week I attended ST. Clair Shores annual Nautical Mile Chili Cook Off at Blossom Heath Inn. I had so much fun sampling chili with my Teen & Little and meeting all kinds of new faces at this event. Oh, and how could I forget- our very own Miss SCS Gobble It Up Chili made by Sara-rose placed 1st in it's category! A proud moment for all parties involved ;)



It's been a crazy time of preparations! I've gotten headshots done, worked on talent and interview preparations all while gearing up for Miss Lighthouse Coast where I will be passing on my 2011 title. From making up the opening number, cutting music and phone powwows with my lovely ED, this has kept me quite busy!

Tonight I attended the Miss Lawrence Tech University pageant, won by Rachel Sweet. Now, there's an original Rachelle Sweet who is one of my very good friends- but this is a new Rachel Sweet! I look forward to heading to Muskegon with Rachel Sweet- once again :p





Only a few more pageants left to round out our class of 2012, and I'm so excited for each new girl who is crowned. My heart is in this hobby of mine and I plan to stick around for years to come. I have way too much fun with my pageant family to feel any other way!

Holiday Party & Miss America!

Wrapping up the holiday season in December, the Miss St. Clair Shores family held our annual Christmas party. We exchanged gifts, had dinner and had a great time together. It was wonderful to feel the love from everyone- and not to mention the abundance of gifts that we all received. Thank you, SCS family, for everything!

On January 12th I departed for Viva Las Vegas for the Miss America pageant! I attended Thursday night's preliminary competition (and had great seats, might I add!) I got to see Miss Michigan compete in evening gown and turn up the heat in swimsuit.

I rode in a gondola with Miss Saginaw, attended Le Reve, a Cirque du Soleil performance (for the second time) and had a blast with all of my pageant sisters in Vegas. We attended a former Miss America autograph signing and did a lot of shopping!

The fun weekend culminated in the crowning of Miss America 2012, Laura Kaeppeler from Wisconsin! What a wonderful Miss America she will be. I am glad I was there to 'see fame crowned!' Our own Miss Michigan was 2nd runner up to the Quality of Life Award- wow, what an achievement. Proud to be from the mitten state!

Today marks five months from the Miss MI pageant...get ready everyone, because here we come!
